Read the World

They say reading is a discount ticket to everywhere, and it’s easier than ever before to travel the world by book.

Here at Project World Kid Lit, we want to make it as easy as possible for you to find children’s and young adult books from beyond your country’s borders, particularly books translated into English from other languages, so you can embark on your own reading tour of the globe, no matter how modest or ambitious.

On this page, you can explore reading resources by country. You can also browse the resources by language or by continent/region.

This is an ambitious project being carried out by volunteers, so please help if you can. You can suggest a website URL for these resources pages, or see the Get Involved! page for details of how to submit to World Kid Lit blog. Thank you!

Map your reading tour

You and your kids could keep track of your read around the world with a reading passport or by marking your travels on a globe or map. You can download a free world map from a creative commons source such as Wikimedia Commons. This high resolution creative commons image would make a great wall map. 

You can find books from different countries by clicking on the links in the list below. Or download our World Kid Lit Book Lists: illustrated guides including the front covers of recommended reads for various age groups. Why not print out these lists, cut out the book images and stick them on your map as you tour the world?
